On November 8th 2018, the Turner family lost their home and all their belongings in the Camp Fire that destroyed most of Paradise, California. They are just one of the many families that have to start over.  Prior to the fire, Mary Turner had worked as a housekeeper at Feather River Hospital for almost two years.  She is currently enrolled in the Chico Regional Occupational Program to become a Medical Assistant and she worked nights so she could attend class in the mornings.  She will graduate in the summer of 2019.

Fred Turner, Mary's husband, has been through and accomplished so much in the last five years. In 2015 he weighed 525 pounds. He lost approximately 100 pounds on his own and then had a stomach sleeve surgery in July 2016.

Simultaneously, Fred developed a bone infection in his right foot which stemmed from a car accident he was in many years ago. The doctor's ordered him to keep off his foot but, after trying all the treatment available, nothing seemed to help. Fred had his right foot amputated in February of 2017. But he was determined to be his best and he wasted no time getting back up on his feet with the help of a prosthesis. He started going to the gym 7 days a week. He now weighs 210 and gets around better than he has since his car accident.

Sandra Patterson, Mary's mother, is 76 years old and lives on her social security. Mary's father passed away in 2013 from metastasis cancer of the spine. Sandra and her husband had been married for 42 years. Mary and Fred have been taking care of Sandra since his passing.

Mary, Fred and Sandra live with their three dogs (Daisy, Bo and Luke) in a small house on Fir Street in Paradise. They all had a simple but happy life. They had rented their home and, unfortunately, did not have insurance. They are now trying to push forward and trying to replace what they had with what they now need.

Please help Mary, Fred and Sandra by sending monetary donations directly to Mary's venmo account or by donating to their gofundme page. You can also purchase an item for them off of their amazon wishlist.
