THE AHL-WRIGHT FAMILY
The Ahl-Wright family lost their home and belongings in the Camp Fire. AmyBeth works as a Special Education Paraprofessional. She was already at work when the evacuations started. Her husband, Dan, was able to get their dogs before he left, but their other animals (and all of their other belongings) had to be left behind. The kids were already at school. Dan picked up the youngest, Lorelai (9).
Brayden (18), Colby (15) and Myla (13) were picked up by their dad. It took the older kids hours to get out of Paradise. Initially they were calling and texting to check in with their mom, but eventually the cell towers went out, and after the calls disconnected there was a long stretch of time when AmyBeth and Dan couldn’t reach them.
They later found out that Brayden had to ride his dirt bike to his grandma’s residence to evacuate her because they could not reach her by car!
The Ahl-Wright family is still trying to secure more permanent lodging, which is their biggest (and most difficult) need. They have been lucky enough to have secured a hotel, but there is no kitchen. They are hoping to be within 40-45 minutes of Chico.
